Ours chateaux

Each chateau keeps its own identity and integrity. Grapes are vinified on site in each of the restored and equipped historical cellars. It’s the guarantee of a respected and fulfilled character.  We have worked to become acquainted with them, understand, strengthen and reveal them.

Côtes de Bourg

Côtes de Bourg

The Côtes de Bourg AOP : On the right bank, along the Dordogne to the estuary, there is a series of valleys and hillsides that offers the ideal conditions for vine cultivation, under a sunny and drier microclimate.  3400 hectares of vineyards typify the identity and the strong personality of this AOP.

From its place on a ledge

From its place on a ledge above the river, on the sculptural terrace which completes Château Eyquem’s grounds, the estuary begins, at the end of the Bec d’Ambès. We almost touch Margaux on the other bank. Time stands still as you discover the magic of the location’s hillsides, fresh terroirs, and privileged lands, including Côtes de Bourg discovered by the Romans. We welcome you to discover our careful blends, atypical grape varieties and ageing varieties and the unforgettable view.

The Antithesis

On the hillsides of the Côtes de Bourg, contrast sets in on the Château Landreau vineyard. In the east lightness is dominant, in the west, power is essential. Between east and west, on the ridge, split wood separates these two sides and the two separate natures that we have encapsulated. In the image of the oak and the reed that separate them, they each have strong character.

Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux

The Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOP : the Blaye appellation, Côtes de Bordeaux is one of the largest of the region; 6000 hectares of selected plots across a great wealth of terroirs : clay-limestone, sand and gravel.  From the right bank, along the Gironde estuary on the hillsides, the sunshine conditions are ideal.

A happy accident

From the side of the Gironde, this holed and graffitied castle has a long story to tell us: In August ‘44: an English plane, an ally’s mistake. Since then it has been the roof-less kingdom of the giraffe painted on the ground floor. The location’s potential was immediately apparent to us. We planted dense vines in ideal conditions: sunshine all day and the fresh air of the estuary at night. It goes to show that a castle grows better without a roof.

Limestone soil, low yield.

The cellar : modern gravity cellar, thermoregulated stainless steel vat room, micro-oxygenation.

Over time

Sought after for its renowned, balanced hillsides, Barbé is the jewel that our ancestors dreamed of. It was the first of our family lands, which have expanded since 1852. They hold memories from the old dormitory of our 100 grape pickers, to our grandmother, chief steward. Under the majestic directorate residence, in the semi-buried brick-colored cellar, you can anticipate an anthology of vintages born from this solar terroir. Here we like to take our time, caring for our wines made for ageing.

In detail

The vineyard : 25 ha of vines, fossils and ammonites.

Grape varieties : 99% black grapes – 73% Merlot, 6.5% Cabernet-Franc, 6.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.5% Malbec, 1% white grapes.

Clay-limestone soil.

The cellar : Semi-buried cellar with thermoregulated concrete vat room, barrel cellar, storage room where we hold tastings.

« The Fresh »

Heading North

Ample and fresh, tomorrow’s challenges loom, and here at Château Pardaillan we are preparing for them: clay heavy land, northern exposures, a choice of Merlot, a semi-buried cellar, and for days that are more intense, a hidden underground that holds the stories of our family. It is from the famous route coming from Cars that you see Château Pardaillan and its two square towers standing from its promontory in the heart of its enclosure. Around it, flourish vines and woods on hillsides made of soils of benevolent clay.

In detail

The vineyard : 15 ha of vines, 16th century basin and woods.

Grape varieties : 100% black grapes – 93% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec.

Clay-limestone soil.

The cellar : traditional cellar with concrete vat room and large cellar barrels.

« The Colorful »

On the cool sands

To every rule there must be an exception, and in our case it is Château La Carelle, located on a plateau of sands, atypical to our Bordeaux anchorage. Its light and fresh soils give varietal advantages, with its cascading colors, like illuminated ribbons flying in the wind. The property has no promontory, no tower or enclosure. A maison de maître and its cellar sit in the heart of the vineyards. Its simplicity fits well for its sociable and easy wines.

In detail

The vineyard : 33.7 ha of vines.

Grape varieties : 88% black grapes. 48% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec. 12% white grapes. 11% Sauvignon, 6% Semillon, 3% Ugni Blanc.

Sandy soil.

The cellar : comprised of four extensions and developments; today composed of a large concrete and stainless steel vat room, suitable for parcels and precise white wine vinification (pre/post fermentation macerations, drip tanks).
